The Ubuntu Deaf Vanguard is a Community-Based, Non-Profit Public Benefit Organization (PBO) for the Deaf people. Born by a Deaf Youth for the Deaf Community in 2020, and registered as a CBO in Kibera - Nairobi in 2021. Trasitioned into a PBO in August 2025.

The idea of founding Ubuntu Deaf Vanguard came on 21^st October, 2020 at the heights of COVID-19. Before and during then, most of the Deaf people: youth and adults had no jobs or sources of income.

Most of them also had no relevant skills needed to secure a well paying job in the city of Nairobi.

Some of them chose to do informal job that are from hand to mouth. Paying house rent was a big challenge. Others depended on their families for survival. Some of them are still with their relatives.

Another BIG challenge was the language barrier between them and the people closer to them: family members and the community. Our main language is Sign Language, which is the third national language in Kenyan Constitution 2010, but sadly, it is lacking in our communities.

There are many organizations claiming to be supporting the Deaf people, but it is sad that they are using them for their own gain.

UDV came to make a win-win environment for everyone involved. We are Deaf-centered, and we want the BEST for our Deaf friends and their families.

Our programs aim to empower them with the skills that are worthy to help them be independent and live for themselves. That is our joy. That is what the Ubuntu Deaf Vanguard is all about.
Nothing more, nothing less.


Also we aim to provde young Deaf people with reasonable skills they need the most, for workplace, community, nation, Africa and the world at large.

We are prepared for greatness, and we believe that the future of our fellow Deaf is BRIGHT. We believe in the posibilities of achieving greatness.
